Water fountains may be used for entertainment, decoration or to supply drinking water. The H20 may pour into basins or jet into the air. Depending on their purpose, they will have a different structure design.

These structures were developed centuries ago. Originally, they were used as a supply source. They were connected to the nearby lakes or rivers in residential areas and used to supply H20 for drinking and bathing. Nowadays, these structures are for entertainment and decoration as well. Some examples: splash pads and musical fountains.

Units designed for drinking are also known as bubblers. These can be found in a variety of public places, including libraries, schools, resting areas, and parks. They can be installed indoors or outdoors and usually contain a tap or running water, and some type of basin. People are meant to drink from the stream of H20 that comes out.

The design, purpose and size of these structures greatly varies. Two examples of units designed specifically for entertainment are musical and splash units. Musical units use jets, spouts, music, light and other technology to produce performances. Splash units are typically used during the summer, or in hot climates, as a way for people to cool off. They are built with non-slip surfaces and contain many jets that shoot the H20 into the air. Because there is no standing liquid, these may be more safe than traditional swimming pools and do not require an on-duty lifeguard.

Sometimes fountains are for decoration. Outdoors, they may act as yard art and also serve as a bathing or drinking source for animals such as birds. Indoors, they are usually on a smaller scale. They may add to interior design or be used as a relaxation technique, as the sound they make may be calming.

Water fountains are built in different ways and according to their purpose. Generally they include some type of filter that is able to remove particles. They may also include pumps, lighting, electrical switch boxes, chambers and computer systems. Some models are very complex. No matter the size, design or function, these units should be maintained and kept clean. water fountains
