In many parts of the country, private outdoor space comes at a premium. If you live in an urban area, an outdoor patio or balcony may be a prized space that allows you to take advantage of the warm sunshine and cool evenings. Even those who own a single family home may find their outdoor space is precious, so they want to do all they can to enhance it and allow their family to spend as much time outdoors as possiblecreate a space that invites you into the outdoors, you should use the same approach as you would indoors. The space should provide comfort, functional, and attractive in order to lure people into the area. If you want to create a space outdoors that offers you additional living space and a comfortable retreat where you can escape and relax, you will need both color and comfort. Accessories like bird houses and water fountains will provide personalization. Even the smallest touches will bring a fun feeling into the space, attract wildlife, and add ambiance to the area.

Just like you would inside of the home, it is important to have a theme for design. It should take on a similar style to your interior. For instance, modern interiors should have modern exteriors. If you have an older Victorian home, the outdoor space should provide the same feeling. Regardless of the style you choose, it should blend with the existing exterior of your home and it should be colorful, lively, and comfortable.

Remember the natural environment can bring just as much color as handcrafted items. If you enjoy a colorful garden, choose plants that bloom with color. There are plants which can provide year round color so your outdoor space is colorful all year long. It is also important to also add greenery to the area, which you can do even if you live in a drought prone area.

Once your greenery and natural surroundings are set, bring additional color into the space with furniture and accessories. Again, this is the same as you would do indoors. Choose furnishings offering practicality and comfort. Decide how you are going to use the space.

Section off spaces for dining, entertaining, and relaxing. Be sure to include side tables so you can rest a drink while relaxing. Finally, bring items into the yard that will make the space even more comfortable like a fire pit, ambient lighting, and a bug zapper to avoid outdoor pests.

Connor R. Sullivan recently bought several bird houses to put around his backyard to attract birds. He installed a couple of water fountains in his flower beds. This article, Adding Fun And Color To Your Yard is released under a creative commons attribution licence.
