What Type\kind Did Leonardo De Vinci Would Have Used In His Hydraulic Water Pump Design?
I am planning on building a copy of his Hydraulic Water Pump (http://imagecache5.art.com/p/LRG/29/2939/JUYRD00Z/leonardo-da-vinci-hydraulic-water-pump-for-a-fountain-codex-atlanticus-1478-1518.jpg) the one on the the bottom. and i have figured almost everything out, but i was wondering what kind of pump he would have used to pump the water to the higher level?
i would like to use one that uses no electricity, and will move close to 100% of the water to the higher level- so it will constantly will keep on working.

archimedes’ screw powered by a water trough with water wheel. This would convert kinetic energy of a flowing stream into potential energy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archimedes'…
But what he is using in the codex is a standard piston pump run by drive shafts connected to waterwheel shaft with drive arms.
You could do the same thing using hausers and pulley drives, or gearing. Similar pumps were in use for clearing mines of water seepage. The first steam engines were used to run the pumps.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Watt
