I think it will work. I built a Koi pond for my mother in law that also had gold fish its about 50X20 it has a filtration system in it, but she has had it for 6 years. After few years she wanted to get rid of the gold fish and some of the koi cause she to many so I got them and took them down to the big pond which is about 100x200 feet with no filtation just a old dirty pond about 5 feed deep, and I go down to the pond and fish sometime when I get a chance to catch catfish and perch. I see the gold fish some times they are about 12" long and I see some of the koi but they have not been there as long and most are black so they would be hard to see in the dirty water. I hope to one day maybe catch them with my pole. Good luck hope it works for you!

What you are doing sound great. If you wait till the Koi get to large size before you introduce them to the pond they will be fine. The catfish will in the future eat the new baby Koi. You can expect you Koi to get to 2-3 foot in size maybe bigger.
