Have a nice outdoor fountain in my backyard. the sound of flowing water is very soothing…however the night life has discovered this and come morning the water level is nearly to the pump and that would ruin the pumps purpose. Does anyone know where I can find or make a screen that would keep the racoons/possumms out???

If you are not keeping fish or plants in the fountain water then try putting swimming pool salt in there. I have a salt water swimming pool with a waterfall to the side of it and never had that problem with Possums. Raccoons and Possums will get a big surprise when they get a taste of salty water and won’t hang around for very long. (salt water will not harm your pump)
Try putting some salt in the water you need to make it real salty so that the animals wont like the taste, but with that salt water is real corrosive so you’ll need to clean it out more often. I don’t think it will kill them. Or you could buy a trap and release them far away from your house so they don’t come back.
Someone told me to scatter agricultural lime around the object you want protected. The lime irritates their feet. I haven’t gotten to use it yet but I’m going to try it this summer with my garden.
it may take a few bottles but get the hotest liquid you can find and put it in the water. depends on how much water there is but with the size fountain i have i would use 4 or 5 bottles. hot for you but hot for them also. another thing you could use if get an electric fencer and string the wire (about 3 or 4 high so they cant go over or under it), takes a little work but will stop them.
If you put epsom salts in the water, it will keep them out. It will kill them, though, so you may not want to do that.
You probably will just have to go out and cover it every night with a screen or plastic or whatever you can find. Raccoons can be awfully stubborn; possoms too!
