My Cat Has A Lot Of Behavior Problems ?
my friend gave me a cat about a year ago and ever since I got her shes been a devil as well an angel. I’m so tired of her bad behavior thou as much as I lover her I’m tempted to get rid of her so heres a list of all her issues
1. She never lets me cuts her nails and whenever I try even with help from someone else she manages to bite
2. I know its normal for a cat to knead when they first they sit down but is it normal for them to never stop? Its painful when she sits down on anyones lap and starts kneading and clawing because no matter how long she sits on someone the kneading just keeps going on. And because her nails are so sharp because she bites she cant really sit or cuddle with anyone and I think shes getting a bit depressed because of it.
3. She killed by bamboo plants even with bitter yuck because she kept eating them.
4. Shes ruined every single screen door in the apartment because she clawed them ( even made a hole so big she can get outside with it in my roommates room. They had to block it off with a fan because its way to hot to have it shut. The problems been fine up until last week when she started knocking over the plush animals I HAD sitting on the fan in front of the window. Her latest thing is sitting on top of the fan and scratching the screen. (When she first sits on the fan she wont hack the screen but if u leave her alone long enough she starts and she wakes me up in the middle of the night when she does it) And it started at night. The first night she did it she woke me up every hour scratching at the screen window and I cant close it because it I have a breathing problem with heat. Theres no AC in my room just a cooler in the living room so I have to have the window open and the fan on otherwise Ill sort of suffocate from lack of cool fresh air.
5. She sits wherever she wants. Obsessed with sitting on my vanity and the table with all my oil and candle burners. When I’m in my room the water bottle should be glued to my hand because no matter how many times I spray her she keeps doing it. When she sees the water bottle in my hand she go away but if not she’ll do it anyway. When I was gone over the weekend recently my room was a mess because she knocked over all my cosmetics and my jewelry stand and my oil and candle table was a mess (When she knocks them over they make load noises then she scampers off and no matter how many times she does this she never learns and keeps doing it) On wed she woke up everyone at 3 in the morning with the sound. I cant close my door because my roommates wont let me have the litter box outside my room so I have no choice to give her access to my room but she shares the bed with me a lot and I like to wake up with her sitting on me as she usually does when I’m sleeping.
6. Has a really bad habit of heading me when I’m trying to work with my hands like play on the computer type sew write do homework and if u push her away she just she tries even harder and petting her give her some attention seems to just egg her on more too so I usually have to spray her away so I can continue working
7. Wont drink the water I give her. Will only drink out of the cups (when I get water and we share the cup otherwise she’ll climb and claw all over me until I give in and let her have some because I don’t want to have scratches all over me from her climbing all over me trying to get the cup which will just be knocked over anyway then me nor her will have some. Pushing her away is unsuccessful just jumps right back on. Same thing happens when u push her away when u don’t want her sitting on u) Also drinks the toilet or from the water fountains that I have stopped using because she will drink them dry and I don’t want them ruined from pumping air since theres no more water in them because she drank it all.
8. She practically has no more fur on her backside because she scratches and bites herself constantly ( this is also a new thing over the past month or so no shes doesn’t have fleas or anything I checked her out at the vet)
Ands its not like I don’t giver her attention I’m only gone 4 hours a day for school then I come home usually. And I pet her and play with her and she doesn’t get along well with other cats my neighbor brought her cat over and she practically clawed the poor other cats eye out. Since shes fixed the vet said to try putting her on her Prozac because she might have ADHD or something like that and she just cant control it. She hates scratching post wont use them the one i spent $40 on is now used to display my plushies in a corner in my room ( its a floor to ceiling type) . The good thing is only thing she will claw is my bedroom window one the others in the house she leaves alone now which i don’t understand why my screen window is the only one she will) and recently the carpet….. If i clap my hands she stops clawing usually otherwise i have to do yell at her to stop and then she does and runs off.
Did i do something wrong? Or ar

You really have got your hands full, haven’t you!! There are some things she’s doing – such as kneading, and sitting everywhere she wants, that is pretty normal for cats. My cat does both of these things too. However, my cat will also let me trim his nails, which is a good thing!!
My friend’s cat won’t tolerate her nails being done either.
What I suggested to her is that she wait until the cat is fast asleep, and in a relaxed frame of mind. Slowly sit next to the cat (facing the same way) and have your nail clippers ready. Pat her gently and talk soothingly just for a moment, so she’s awake, but only just, then, gently, but as quickly as you can(without making any quick or sudden moves), take her paw, squeeze gently the toe you want to trim, then quickly but accurately snip it. Once that’s done you may have time to do one more, or you may not. Don’t worry if you can’t. Just leave it then, until your next opportunity.
If you’re successful, and you get one or two done, stop before she really gets upset. Once you notice her wake right up, and start to notice what you’re doing, stop immediately, and just pat her and make a fuss of her. Then leave the rest of the trimming for later, when she’s asleep again.
This is how I taught my own cat (as a kitten) to put up with it, and he just lies there and purrs when I do his now – and I can easily get them all done without any reaction from him at all. Unfortunately you missed out on the kitten stage, which is a pity, but i think if you persist, you’ll be able to work it out. Then, your screen door problem will be solved, as well as the pain you have to go through when she kneads you!
As far as the itch on the backside goes, this may be caused by an allergy or something else. It’s worth a visit to the vet I think, because it’s really hard to guess at things like this.
As for her water – my suggestion is that you give her a deeper, bigger container of water. My cat loves drinking out of a bucket, but never out of his bowl!!! He likes drinking from my cup too – I think really it’s just that he knows I’ve been drinking from it, and he wants to get involved too!
See if you can buy a plastic bucket that’s about half the normal size – something quite deep, but small enough for the cat to be able to reach his head into. If you keep it fairly full, I bet he’ll use it. Cat’s love water fountains, as you’ve discovered, because the water is moving. I don’t think they like bowls because the water is shallow and still.
Other than that, she sounds like a persistent, attention seeking but fairly normal, young, energetic cat. Some cats are more laid back than others – and it sounds like you got one that isn’t!
I hope you can work things out – try doing what I suggested. She may end up just not being the cat for you – you’ll have to decide that for yourself, but I think if you can at least get her claws trimmed, it will help with some of the other problems.
Good luck!
The claws, get some different types of scratching posts. The needing, is because she is very contented, don’t get down on her about it. The plants, that’s just one thing you may have to do without. Screens, sitting, head butts, get a water spray bottle. Every time she starts, squirt squirt.
The drinking. Don’t give in. when she starts, put her in front of her dish. You will have to do this everytime until she learns that she has her own water. Be forceful, but not mean. The hair thing is something you’ll have to follow up on at the Vet. They may have to take a skin scrapping or some other test.
Hope this helps
