I am making a ceramic fountain. I have a flight of stairs (4 steps) and on each step i have one bowl. i want the water from the 4th bowl to circulate to the first.. (so water will flow down from each bowl.. i am having trouble figuring out where to put the holes for the pump and the hose.. and how exactly is it going to circulate the water.. ??
It is similar to this.. http://www.simplyfountains.com/outdoor-fountains/lighted-fountains/columbiafountain.cfm

This very difficult to explain here but I will give it a try. First , you need some mechanical ability and tools. You need to study that photo carefully . Notice how they have those lips on each bowl. Those lips are important to force the water to fall directly into the bowl below. Without those you will lose a lot of water. Then you need a recirculating pump and some tubing. Place the pump in the bottom bowl and run the tubing to the top bowl. You don’t need anythingfor the two middle bowls.Drill a hole in the bottom of the top bowl with a masonry bit( if the bowl is made from ceramic, etc.) Run the tubing through the hole and seal it with silicone caulk. You need large, deep bowls to hold a lot of water or else you will be continually filling them. Those are the basics. There are many other things I could suggest, like a water reservoir. I hope this helps and good luck to you.
The tubing in the picture seems to be running up the back to the top bowl, the openings in bowls let water pour on down to bottom bowl, but does it run somewhere else then, or back to the tubing??
Do you have wooden steps you could drill hole in for tubing to go to top bowl?
Or run it across the bottom of crack on step top bowl is in–paint it to match the steps, staple it down. Sorry, interesting question but don’t know if I’m qualified
