Is It Safe To Add Bleach To Fountain Water?
We have a small indoor fountain, holding maybe 1.5 quarts of water that is circulated by an electric pump. Every couple of weeks or so, however, the water gets scummy and it’s a chore to empty out the water, clean the surfaces, and add new water.
We’d like to add a small amount of chlorine bleach to the fresh water to keep the scum from forming, but worry about our cat or dog drinking from the fountain (we keep the fountain close to the floor).
Is there an optimum ratio of bleach to water that will retard the scum formation but not harm the pets? And is the scum itself harmful to the pets?
Thanks.

the bleach is not a good idea, it will ruin the floor, and crust up the fountain jets
at garden centers they sell stuff like AlgaeFix or Fountain Block
scum is most likely algae, organic
bleach will degrade METAL.
which would you rather have?
you can get some tablets from home depot or lowes to treat your water supply safely without fear of killing you or your pets.
hell yeah that’s dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…
IF there is a chance that pets could get into it and drink it this a bad idea I don’t know if it would work but have you thought about using a very very small amount of Chlorine
