I have 2 preformed plastic ones, and I don’t have Koi. They are hazardous to plants. I have one that is the largest sold, and I have 5 6″ goldfish. I bought the $.10 feeders from PSP 4 years ago,
The pond is 22″ deep, and I live in NW OH, where the temps go below -10. I just leave my pumps running during Winter. Moving water doesn’t freeze.

Regarding your first question, Koi need a lot of space – maybe even about 200 gallons per fish. The size and depth of your koi pond will depend on how many koi you plan to put in it. koi are cold water fish so you need to dig 3 feet or more of depth where you have warm summers. If you live in an area with extreme winters your koi pond should be no less than 4 ½ feet so the water doesn’t freeze solid.

You need to make sure the pond is big enough for the size of fish you have. You need to make it deep enough that the fish will survive the winter and so the raccoons can’t get to them. They recommend 4 feet deep.
