Koi Pond Question?

I have had my Koi pond now for 4yrs and I have never had this happen before.
I cleaned out the pond last week because I had a horrible algae problem and had used a cheap brand UV light.
I had always used Turbo Twist UV light, but it broke last year.
After cleaning the pond and removing all algae, I put a brand new Turbo Twist in. Mind you, I had this brand for three years, and never had this happen.
Now, my water has turned cloudy, within two days, and slimy suldge is on the filter and hoses and has clogged my pump.
The color is not green. More of a greyish brown.
I am wondering if it is from the chemicals to remove the chlorine, such as Start Right.
Will the UV light kill this in time?
I have removed the fountain attachment and let the water flow fully through the UV light, in return to the spitter to the pond.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have a filter and a pump and a fountain and also i use a type of algae reducer thing (like a syrup) , also there is a shade cloth over the pond. How can i clean all the rocks that have algae on them, so far i have cleaned abit of them one by one with a sponge, can i put them in boiling water to kill the algae any suggestions??????? thankkyouu (10 points best answer)

What Are Your Thoughts On This Goldfish Pond?

We live in South Georgia and have a pond in our backyard that is approx. 100 ft x 50 ft x 5 ft deep. Right now it has channel catfish and bream. We have dug a canal from corner of this pond that is about 12 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft deep and have a bridge over this stream. There is mesh wire under the bridge to be bottom of the stream so that the catfish/bream cannot get into the canal. We pump well water into the pond via a fountain head a few times a week to keep it full. We want to put goldfish and koi into the canal. Will this work? We were hoping that we could transfer the goldfish and koi into the big pond once they started to outgrow the canal. Would that be ok? The biggest catfish in the big pond are about 12 inches at most. Also, there is no type of filtration on the pond other than the fountain but we do want to build a simple waterfall (without a filtration system) at the end of the canal. What do you think of this setup and do you think it will support the goldfish and koi long term? I want them to grow big! How big do you think they will get in this type enviroment?
Thanks!

Do I Really Need This For A Koi Pond?

I found a list of things that I need for a koi pond and I was just wondering if I really need all of this stuff.
-water pump
-bio filter (what is this?)
-mechanical filtration
-ultraviolet light system
-ozonator
-aerator
-waterfall
-fountain
-protein skimmer
-heating system
-underwater lighting
My pond is about 20×10x3 ft with the deepest area 5ft. I got this list from www.koifishponds.com/koi_pond_design.htm if this helps at all.

Okay, this is what happened. Last night, the fountain in the pond went askew. Well have the water was sprayed out of the pond in the process. I took a broom to knock the detachable fountain spray into the pond, the whole thing collapse and i found the water level is about 1/3 full. So should i turn off the pumps, or leave them running tonight. If i leave the water level, as it is, the whole thing will freeze tonight I’m sure.
Sorry about the ignorance, We don’t normally get this cold here. Well, not since i’ve had this pond.

The problem is all the water splashes out. Someone told me to get a “splitter” and attach a fountain head to one end and use the other end to run the hose for the waterfall. Does this make sense? Where would I find a splitter and how would I attach it?

There is a pump with a fountain. I think I am missing parts but don’t know what to order as I don’t understand the workings of the 2 tier pond. I don’t know how to pump the water back to the top tier so it can flow over the rocks to the bottom. The tubing seems to be cemented in also. Thank You

What Is Needed For An Outdoor Turtle Pond?

Okay so I need some assistance. I live in a tiny town and apparently the not so smart people at home depot and walmart don’t know what they are talking about. I purchased a 125 gallon hard preformed pond for my backyard. I have a pond turtle in a tank in the house that needs to go outside.
I just want to get it started and the rest will follow:
I need the following:
1) A Filter
2) A Pump
3) Water Fountain Head Attachments
Just to get it started…The rest is ornamental/plants/fish..which I can do.
The guys at home depot keep telling me that the filter is on the pump. But the filter is so small I don’t see how it can filter for a pond turtle. Can you help me with links that shows which three pieces I need to buy to make this pond start to work. The filter is what is really throwing me off. Just seems like I need something more than just the pump filter. I want something that will help keep the pond clean too.
Anything Solar would be great as well. Thank you!

hi,

thanx a lot!

How Can I Attain Clear Water In My Koi Pond?

I have a 130-gallon garden pond in my back yard. I currently have five Koi living in it that are all approximately 4-inches long. I have a submersible 325-GPH pump with a pre-filter attached. I also have a diverter connected to my pump and from that I have a small fountain and a small waterfall running. Unfortunately, my water continues to get more and more green and I’m beginning to lose sight of my fish. What would be the best technique to solve this problem without harming my fish and without spending too much money?

Is A Gp250 Pond Pump Good For Small Waterfalls?

i have had it for a wile and Ive been using it for a fountain in my pond. i really want a small water fall but i dont want too buy another filter.

I ‘t has never been taken care of and i am just starting. i would like to get a fountain pump for the middle but, i need landscaping ideas, pump sizes and to clean up the water. how can i tell if there is a natural spring???

I live in Pennsylvania and the pond temperature will flucuate from a nice summer day to a bitterly cold winter. The pond does have a pump and fountain so the water is circulating. But the amount of algae is clogging the pump too often. Thanks for any and all advice.

Pond Heater?

I just started an outdoor pond. The pond is only 100 gallon and has 10 goldfish in it. There is a good water pump/fountain in it, but i think i will need a heater in winter. I live in kansas and temps get down to 0 in winter. If i do get a heater i would like it to be powerful enought to heat the pond to 60-65 degrees. What kind of wattage heater do I need?
Thank you!

How Can I Stop My Garden Pond Pump From Blocking Up?

I have a fountain type garden pond pump for my fish. It keeps blocking up with water snails and general stuff, how can I stop this?

Smartphone Software

the pond is a few months old, size about 8 foot by 4 foot, 2 foot deep. the pump is both fountain and waterfall and on all the time. I have a lily in and a small plant from a local stream. no expensive fish, just a goldfish which i hope to add about 3 more to. water very cloudy, can’t see much below surface.

I am planning on building about a 500 Gallon Pond and have available a 2000 GHP pond pump Powerjet 2000 by Laguna. Is this just to powerful for my to be pond or is this better for kepping the pond clean for my fish and turtle. Also my Filter only handles up to 1400 GPH which is a Pressure-Flo 1400 by Laguna. Will this pump aslo be to strong for the filter. Thank you for your help I love this site.
